about the Plan Review

The District of Shelburne is enthusiastically embarking on a pivotal revision of its Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use By-law (LUB). These guiding documents will be direct a positive transformation of the District for the coming decade.

The current MPS, while effective, has a somewhat focused scope. It addresses specific land use issues and doesn’t fully cover all Statements of Provincial Interest. The last update to the MPS for Shelburne was in 2015, with the aim of establishing policies across the District.

In light of recent changes to Provincial legislation, we find ourselves at a crossroads where it’s essential to review and update the MPS and LUB. This step ensures we meet a spectrum of minimum and mandatory planning requirements related to drinking water, flood risk areas, agricultural land, infrastructure, and housing throughout the District.

We’re embracing this challenge with a comprehensive and exploratory approach to the plan review. This journey will take us into several new areas for the District. We’ll delve into key sectors such as residential lands, coastal zones, forestry and agricultural land, commercial and institutional areas, municipal services, highway interchanges, transportation links, and water features/flood-prone areas.

Our Document Library contains all the necessary information. It houses the current MPS and LUB under review, it also contains special studies that will be instrumental in the MPS and LUB review process. We’re excited about the road ahead and the positive changes it will bring to our District.

The Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) contains a vision statement with goals and objectives for The District of Shelburne and policies that guide development by land use.

The Land Use Bylaw (LUB) implements the MPS. It includes requirements for development for each land use, standards that guide infrastructure development.
